    Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) is an emerging
    area of multi-disciplinary activity, in support of quality
    healthcare delivery and improved patient safety. The HTM
    Framework proposed here  (see 'HTM Framework' page)
    includes many of the activities associated with clinical
    engineering and complements health technology assessment
    (HTA) and medical device regulatory processes and activities.

    HTM is defined as "the goal of optimising the acquisition and
    utilisation of healthcare technologies and other physical
    assets" and comprises four major processes: Planning and
    Procurement (as part of Acquisition) and Asset Management
    and Risk Management (as part of Utilisation).

    HTM  includes:

  • making the right technologies available (effectiveness);
  • in full functionality (performance);
  • with minimal risk to patients and health workers (safety);
  • while reducing systemic inefficiencies and associated
    wastage

    and aims to:

    Maximise Access, Availability and Utilisation
      while
    Minimising Cost, Inefficiency and Risk
      associated with healthcare technologies.
